Monica is passionate about pediatrics and reducing health disparities. She earned her medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City and holds a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) degree in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control from Johns Hopkins University. In addition to clinical medicine, Monica has worked in research on vector-borne diseases, congenital infections and environmental health in the US, Peru, Bolivia and Mexico. In her most recent role, she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Johns Hopkins University where she conducted research on the use of echocardiography to predict the onset of Chagas disease cardiomyopathy in a Bolivian cohort, as well as evaluating Chagas disease diagnostics in a maternal cohort in Mexico.
