Dr. Velez is an Internationa Medical graduate from Bogotá D.C., Colombia. She is currently coordinating and supporting numerous quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies in Emergency Medicine, Education, Qualitative research, and Integrative Medicine in the Department of Radiology. To support the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia COVID efforts, Dr. Velez invented a transparent origami facemask, with the collaboration of the 3D printing lab (CHAMP) and executed a pilot study to evaluate the use of the mask for the assessment of Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In medical education, she is involved in different projects for curriculum development, including professional identity formation and cultural diversity, and artificial intelligence-driven tools for precision learning. Dr. Velez is the Principal investigator of a project sponsored by Children´s National Hospital - NCC-PDI, and co-investigator of 2 projects sponsored by the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) and National Science Foundation. She has also presented various projects as oral presentations in different national and international meetings (RSNA, SPR, ESPR, and IPR).
